We gave our opinion to Recharge News about the new French mechanism for wake compensation.

Here are some of our thoughts:
We think it’s a great first step, but with caveats.
In our opinion, it would be ideal if regulations push developers to collaborate instead of maximising individual production.
Can we imagine a system of penalties/bonuses based on collaborative behavior?
But is inter-farm wake optimization even technically possible? Wake steering, wake pulsing.. ? Do they work at large scales?

Thinking about these types of mechanisms can bring a lot of ideas and a whole lot of questions.

And at the EU level:
– Can this be used as a stepping stone to implement similar measures in other EU countries?
– And if so, how do we manage cross-border effects?
– Can we eventually get to an EU-wide system? (avoiding many different individual measures)
