Reducing uncertainty about very large-scale/long-term wake effects behind future wind farm clusters. We are taking the 3.4 GW Belgian/Dutch wind cluster as a pilot project here. The wake effects can have a significant impact on the energy yield of wind farms located downstream; however, the exact strength of these effects is uncertain and influences whether the set climate targets will be achieved.

REdouble initiates and coordinates a multi-source campaign funded by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). The approach involves combining existing and new measurements based on Floating LiDAR Systems (FLS). The project plan involves deploying at least three FLSs at varying distances behind the cluster. Preparations began in March 2025, with implementation planned for the fall of 2025.

The project aims to provide high-quality public measurement data for six months to support the offshore wind sector and policymakers. This will lead to better quantification of cluster wake effects. The BeNeWakes project highlights REdouble’s role in promoting industry knowledge for the public good, not just for private projects. This project is not solely focused on the immediate profit of a specific commercial customer; it is a research and development initiative with broader public and industrial benefits. This demonstrates REdouble’s commitment to knowledge sharing and contributing to society’s overall sustainability goals. It strengthens REdouble’s reputation and credibility, attracting customers who value partners committed to industry-wide progress and robust, publicly validated data.
